Valerie Andrews

Valerie attended Edmonton Technical School for girls in the early 1950’s where she learned the sewing trade. After leaving technical school, her first job was in Park Lane, London. She worked with Margot Brigden (interior designer to the Queen). Valerie was then employed at Norrington & Adams in London, where she made high-class curtains, bedspreads, cushions and Swags & Tails for the elite including Buckingham Palace.

In 1963, after starting a family, Valerie emigrated to New Zealand. In the early 1970’s she established the business Bedspread Originals, making quilted bedspreads for designers in Auckland.

Valerie returned to England in 1986 for a working holiday and was re-employed at Norrington & Adams where Robert was currently working. On their return to New Zealand Valerie and Robert established Andrews Soft Furnishings Ltd and continued to make bedspreads, curtains, cushions and other soft furnishings for designers.
